Leopard on runway shuts down airport

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s only internatio­nal airport was briefly shut down yesterday after a leopard was spotted on the runway, officials said. Tribhuwan Internatio­nal Airport in Kathmandu was closed as soon as the animal was spotted on the runway yesterday morning, said airport official Prem Nath Thakur. Police and forest officers were immediatel­y called. Flights resumed after a shutdown that lasted about half an hour. The search for the animal was continuing. The airport is inside the city but has some forested area on the northern edge.
