There’s an app for that face
Making her eyes look larger with eyeshadow and liner, and photo-shopping her skin with foundation, Nikkie de Jager applies cosmetics on only half of her face, leaving the other half naturally bare. Shared on YouTube, the viral video shows the dramatic transformation of the right side, in demonstrating the power of make-up.
Since May 2015, the video has attracted 35 million views and an international following of NikkieTutorials. Furthermore, it raises an awareness of make-up shaming opposed by the Dutch beauty influencer, who encourages women to play with make-up, which is not a crime, in making one look good.
To further end make-up shaming, NikkieTutorials has partnered with Meitu, a mobile internet company, in launching the #SHEunites campaign to support the Peacemakers Network.
Meitu’s MakeupPlus app will feature three exclusive looks created by the famed beauty expert. Supporters can download the app and apply their favourite #SHEunites virtual make-up look, share their photo, and hashtag it #SHEunites on Instagram.
Initiated by the United Nations, the Peacemakers Network is a global network of NGOs, who believe in the role of women in building a flourishing and peaceful society. The #SHEunites campaign aims to support works done by women around the world by providing a digital platform to share their inspiring stories, while raising funds to commission training and workshops as well as the capacity-building of supportive local networks.
The collaboration with NikkieTutorials is one of Meitu’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. The company specialises in innovative mobile video and photography, including AI-based facial recognition and virtual “try-on” technologies for hair, make-up and skincare. Its app also includes tutorials from popular make-up artists, besides Nikkie de Jager, along with a content channel that updates on the latest beauty trends.
