Two grand classical salutes to royalty
Maestro Hikotaro Yazaki will conduct the SSMS Orchestra in two grand concert performances, entitled “Remembering A Great King”, to take place in Pattaya and Bangkok this weekend.
Presented by Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Music, the concert will see the internationally acclaimed conductor lead the young artists of Silpakorn Summer Music School to perform three pieces of classical music as a tribute to the late King Bhumibol at Tiffany’s Show Theatre in Pattaya, Chon Buri, on Saturday at 2pm. The performance will repeat at Chulalongkorn University’s Auditorium in Bangkok on Sunday at 5pm.
The concert will open with Symphony No. 6 in B Minor, Op 74, Pathétique, the final completed symphony, written in 1893, by Russia’s Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and proceed with Tragic Overture, a concert overture for orchestra written by German Johannes Brahms. Concluding the show will be Sinfonia Chakri by Narongrit Dhamabutra, a Thai composer who was awarded the prestigious Silpathorn Award in 2008.
Considered the country’s most prestigious summer music school, the SSMS annually recruits approximately 100 young musical talents, selected by rigorous audition, to come and play together and further their knowledge and experience under the guidance of Silpakorn University’s distinguished music faculty.
