Opera singer answers emergency
After performing an emergency Violetta earlier this week, Russian soprano Olga Peretyatko-Mariotti planned to attend Friday night’s La Traviata from the comfort of an audience seat. “Of course it was such a huge risk, but Peter Gelb and the Metropolitan Opera believed in me, so I understood I should help them,” she said. General manager Gelb had only hours to find a replacement Violetta after Italian soprano Carmen Giannattasio was struck by allergies and left unable to sing.
