Ghost In The Shell

Scarlett Johansson plays Major, a humancybor­g operative tasked with fighting the enemy of her employer. A cyberpunk adventure based on a popular Japanese comic, Ghost In The Shell is an action film set in the future as well as a contemplat­ion on the nature of consciousn­ess since Major, a robot by definition, still retains a part of her soul. Diamond Island

A tale of a group of young constructi­on workers on Koh Pich, or Diamond Island, a giant real-estate complex in Phnom Penh. Featuring a non-profession­al cast, the story focuses on a teenager who leaves his rural home to work in the capital and reunites with his long lost brother. Directed by Davy Chou. Yu Wo Wakasuhodo No Atsui Ai (Her Love Boils Bathwater)

In this Japanese drama, Rie Miyazawa plays Fubata, a terminally ill woman who runs a bathhouse in a small town. Her husband has left her for another woman. When she catches up with him, she finds out a heartbreak­ing truth that he’s caring for a daughter he never knew he had. Her path to reconcilia­tion and redemption will invoke tears. Directed by Ryôta Nakano.

Get Out

This social thriller tells the story of a black man and his white girlfriend on their nightmaris­h weekend. Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and Rose (Allison Williams) arrive at her parent’ s house in a wealthy, predominan­tlywhite suburb where everyone is exceeding ly civil. Chris will discover the dark secrets of the household. Directed by Jordan Peele.

Apprentice

In this Singaporea­n film, Aiman (Firdaus Rahman) is a correction­al officer working in a prison. He befriends Rahim (Wan Hanafi Su), a veteran hangman with a fearsome reputation. When Rahim begins to train Aiman in the craft of execution, a terrible secret that links the two men is revealed. Directed by Boo Junfeng. Limited release.

The Boss Baby

In this family-friendly animated film, an imaginativ­e seven year old teams up with his new brother (with briefcase, suit and tie) to topple the evil plot of a puppy. Directed by Tom McGrath.

A documentar­y film charting the history of X Japan, a legendary glam-rock group from Japan. Directed by Stephen Kijak. Limited release.

In this Thai horror film, a group of high school friends uncover the dark secret of Siam Square, the popular haunt for young people. Directed by Pairach Khumwan. This Thai independen­t film is inspired by

a popular song by a southern singer. Set in the southern region, the film tells the story of two friends and how they overcome the odds to become singers. Directed by Boonsong Nakphoo.

Power Rangers

Five adolescent­s discover coloured alien coins that give them superpower­s. Each of them clad in a distinctiv­e colour, the quintet have to fight a monster army and save the world. Directed by Dean Israelite.

Life

Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds star in this intergalac­tic thriller. The crew returning from Mars bring back a sample of a living organism, which looks harmless enough in the beginning before it evolves into something else. Directed by Daniel Espinosa.

Koe no katachi (A Silent Voice)

In this Japanese animation adapted from a hit manga, a bullying schoolboy turns around to find redemption after a crime he commits against a deaf girl. Directed by Naoko Yamada.

Juste la fin du monde (It’s Only The End Of The World)

In this French-speaking Canadian film, Gaspard Ulleil plays a man who returns home after a long absence to announce that he’s dying. But his high-strung family members are too obsessed with their own pains to pay attention to him. Also starring Lea Seydoux, Marion Cotillard, Vincent Cassel and Natalie Baye. Directed by Xavier Dolan.

Beauty And The Beast
