Jazz quartet, pianist from Italy to play Italian Festival
The Embassy of Italy will present the Bangkok debut performances of the Marco Guidolotti Jazz Quartet and pianist Cristiana Pegoraro as part of the Italian Festival in Thailand next week.
The Marco Guidolotti Quartet will perform at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan intersection, on April 26, and Pegoraro will give a solo concert at Chulalongkorn University’s Music Hall, Phaya Thai Road, on April 28. Both shows start at 7pm.
Guidolotti is an active saxophone soloist. He won the prestigious Massimo Urbani International Jazz Award, reserved for saxophone players in 2010, and has performed at several international jazz festivals.
With his quartet consisting of Francesco Lento (trumpet and flugelhorn), Marco Loddo (double bass), Giovanni Campanella (drums), they released S Wonderful as a tribute to the great music of Gerry Mulligan and trumpeter Chet Baker in 2014. The upcoming concert will see them perform scores from this very album.
Hailed as “an artist of the highest calibre” by The New York Times, Pegoraro has performed on the most prestigious stages in Europe, the US, South America, Asia and Australia. She is the first female
Italian pianist to perform classical concerts in Bahrain, Yemen and Oman as well as to perform all 32 sonatas for piano by Beethoven.
Over the years she has appeared in front some of the highest world dignitaries. Her piano artistry can be heard on 25 LPs.
Her latest, Astor Piazzolla Tangos, received t he Gold Medal at the prestigious Global Music Awards. For her first Bangkok concert, she will perform with virtual background provided by Mino La Franca, a fashion and advertising photographer who has collaborated with opera companies and famous musicians, projecting videos and images on the stage.
The repertoire will include Rossini’s Ouverture from The Barber Of Seville, Verdi’s Va Pensiero from Nabucco, Vivaldi’s La Primavera from The Four Seasons, Mascagni’s Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy, and her own composition, The Wind And The Sea.
