Singha in Cafe Del Mar tie-up in Maldives

-

SET-listed Singha Estate Plc (S) has teamed up with Cafe Del Mar for a beach club on a large-scale project being developed by Boon Rawd Brewery in the Maldives.

The latest partnership further underlines Singha’s attempts to provide wide-ranging facilities for tourists after forming commercial relationships with renowned entertainment brand Hard Rock Hotel Group.

Cafe Del Mar is a popular club operator whose entertainment venues are located on beachfronts around the world.

Thitti Thongbenchamas, chief investment officer of Singha Estate, said the contract with Cafe Del Mar attested to the significant progress the company’s megaproject was making in the Maldives.

Founded in 1980 in Ibiza, Spain, Cafe del Mar has expanded worldwide to destinations including Australia, Spain and Hawaii.

The Cafe Del Mar beach club in the Maldives is intended to serve as a flagship outlet in the Indian Ocean, with over 5,000 square metres of space, said Mr Thitti.

“The club is popular among its fans thanks to its high level of creativity. They have created their own music, which is tailor-made for each event or activity. Much of the music has been made by celebrity DJs like Roger Sanchez, Dimitri, Boy George and Paul Oakenfold,” he said.

The Maldives beach club will connect with a yacht marina, which can accommodate a large number of guests.

A world class designer will also be employed to design the pool by the beach, said Mr Thitti.

The beach club will further cater to party-oriented travellers seeking out international DJs. The first phase of the club is expected to open by next year.

He said that the partnerships with world-renowned companies in various aspects including accommodations, shopping and entertainment will boost the project’s profile.

A project of this nature is also unprecedented for the Maldives, said Mr Thitti. The public will get a sneak glimpse of it soon.

Singha Estate was assigned by Boon Rawd Brewery Co, owned by the same shareholder, the Bhirombhakdi family, to manage and operate the integrated resort on Emboodhoo, a seven-squarekilometre island, for which Boon Rawd received a 50-year concession from the Maldives government.

Apart from the beach club and marina, the project will also boast a hotel, restaurants and a duty-free shop.
