THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE
Showcasing sophisticated movements, IWC’s Portugieser watch family was named after two Portuguese businessmen, who ordered timepieces with the precision of marine chronometers, which were made for them in 1939.
Portugieser Constant-Force Tourbillon further demonstrates the Swiss maison’s prowess in tuning precision through the highly-complex constant-force mechanism integrated in a tourbillon, which solves the problem of decreased tension in the mainspring and the balance amplitude having an impact on accuracy.
Revealed at 9 o’clock, the constant-force tourbillon ensures the amplitude of the balance remains constant and the escapement delivers an even supply of power for precise timekeeping.
The mechanism makes the tourbillon’s second hand advance in one-second jumps, which ensures a regular and precise rate over a period of at least 48 hours. After approximately two days, the movement switches from constant-force mode to normal mode — seen from the second hand advancing at intervals of onefifth of a second.
With a power reserve of 96 hours, the new in-house manufactured 94800 calibre features two barrels, which provide the energy for the higher torque required to drive the constant-force tourbillon and moon phase module.
Positioned at the 1 o’clock, the double moon display for the northern and southern hemispheres debuts in this 46mm model in a red gold or platinum case.
Selecting the dial and alligator strap as well as engraving on the case back gives a customised Portugieser promising unprecedented precision.
