THE SETTING

You know what’s better than one good restaurant? The answer is six of them being put together in one space! The recently-opened My Kitchen at Siam Discovery may look like your average food court, but on close inspection, you’ll realise it’s an all-star kitchen collaboration between six notable names. They are Man Fu Yuan, Cafe Chilli, Nara, Kuppadeli, Yuzu by Yuutaro and Brix Dessert Bar, bringing different cuisines and appeals into this 1,000sqm space.

The open floor setting gives off spacious yet communal vibes. With its 50 shades of white and Volakas marble floor, My Kitchen feels fancy and modern AF in comparison to your average food court. There are different seating setups to suit your occasion too.

For semi-privacy for large group, there are some tables placed between curved glass panels, giving you the illusion of a somewhat private room. For a meal with a view, opt for one of the semi-circular tables next to the glass windows from where you can appreciate the greenery inside Sra Pathum Palace and the coming and going of the BTS train. Last but not least, there are clear sofas and armchairs set around coffee tables for laidback gatherings. Besides the food compilation and impressive ambience, My Kitchen also features a workshop/event area and one DJ booth.

With all of these features, My Kitchen is serious about living up to its tagline “eatmeet-mingle”.

THE MENU

Order food like it’s 2027 through tablets found at every table (except the coffee tables). Unlike other places where their devices are purely for browsing through food items, you can actually tap on My Kitchen’s to order food and choose to pay with your credit card or cash. We decided to go big by ordering two items from all of the six outlets.

Representing Chinese cuisines are Honey glazed BBQ char siew (B265++) and Radish cake with X.O. sauce (B150) from Man Fu Yuan. The roast pork had the right amount of fat to go with its tender meat. There’s a sweetness to the sauce, of course, but not in a heady way. At this kind of price tag, however, we expected to be blown away more. The cake offered a softness that melted in your mouth with some crispy crust on the surface.

Nara doesn’t disappoint at all with its already famous Thai cuisine. Green pork curry with roti (B180) contained the right amount of heat and aroma and left a slightly sweet af- tertaste which we didn’t mind at all. Northern chicken dry curry noodle (B135) is basically a condensed version of khao soi. The chicken leg was big and juicy. Instead of curry that you can slurp, you’ll get an intensified version in the form of sauce instead. And it went great with the soft noodles too.

The other outlet that represents Thai cuisine is Cafe Chilli which is well known for its Isan flavours. If you’re indecisive, you may want to consider Set A (B190) which highlighted rightfully-spicy som tam plara, chewy-but-not-hard moo yor and aromatic grilled turmeric chicken. Spicy soup with bouncy pork balls (B230) tasted a tad too sour but nonetheless very aromatic. They weren’t lying about their pork balls being bouncy. They were delicious with a slight sweetness to them too.

We went to the other side of the hemisphere with Chick pea salad (B180) and Sai oui pizza (B300) from Kuppadeli. The salad looked deceptively simple but tasted quite sensational. The crisp and peppery touch of rocket leaves went well with the firmer texture of the chickpeas while the avocado brought in some creaminess for good measure. The pizza offered some aromatic bits from the northern-style sausage in addition to the stringy cheese and tomato sauce.

Yuzu represented Japanese cuisines (duh) with Sashimi set A (B800) and Salmon engawa aburi don set (B340). The sashimi set beautifully featured six raw delights with the highlights, in our opinion, being a toss between the fatty salmon and the blow-torched engawa. They so satisfyingly melted in our mouths. The rice bowl set gave good value for your baht, featuring a respectable amount sashimi and explosive ikura.

Don’t forget to save some room for dessert from Brix. Granita matcha (B225) could wow you with its dry-ice presentation as well as the many goodies contained within this icy green tea mountain.

THE INSIDER TIP

You can really mix business with pleasure here, thanks to the electric sockets found at pretty much every table. Freelancers can plug their laptops in, work away and take a break whenever they want. My Kitchen occasionally hosts concerts and workshops but the DJs play on Fridays and Saturdays from 7-9pm.

VALUE & VERDICT

The food collaboration, nice ambience and extra features make My Kitchen a good venue for play and work. Besides having a meal with family and friends, we think My Kitchen is also good for some low-key after-work or after-uni unwinding or an informal business meeting. With the variety of food on offer, it’s bound to have something that’ll suit your palate preference too.
