INDONESIAN’S ‘GREY AREA’ EXAMINED AT BU GALLERY
Bangkok University Gallery presents “Grey Area”, a contemporary photography art exhibition by Indonesian artist Angki Purbandono, until July 26.
A well-known photographer from Yogyakarta, Angki created a series of photographs in 2012-2013 while he was imprisoned. Instead of giving up, he used his incarceration to produce artwork that was based on community relations within the limits of space, place and equipment.
Angki is known for his “scanographies” in which he creates photographic images created from scanning objects on a flat-bed scanner.
Some parts of the artwork were co-produced with the warden and other prisoners.
The gallery is located at Bangkok University’s Kluai Nam Thai campus, Rama IV, and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30am-7pm.
