MAJOR INSURGENCY ATTACKS IN THE FAR SOUTH

2004 Jan 4 Militants raid the Fourth Development Battalion's Narathiwat army base, killing four soldiers and stealing 413 firearms. April 28 A major revolt by southern insurgents in Pattani, which subsequently ends at the Krue Se mosque in Pattani. Many are killed in the incident. 2005 Feb 17 A car bomb in Narathiwat's tambon Sungai Kolok kills six people and wounds more than 40. April 3 Bomb blasts at Carrefour shopping mall, Hat Yai International Airport and Green World Palace Hotel in Songkhla. 2006 Aug 31 Explosions at 22 banks in Yala, kill one and injure 30. Sept 16 Four bomb blasts in Hat Yai district of Songkhla, kill five and wound more than 50. 2007 Feb 18 Multiple bomb, arson and gun attacks in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla result in six deaths and 62 injuries. Dec 4 A bomb-rigged motorcycle explodes in front of a restaurant in Pattani's Muang district killing six and wounding 25. 2008 Nov 4 A car bomb and two motorcycle bomb attacks in front of where a meeting of kamnan and village headmen was being held, kills one and wounds 71. 2009 Oct 6 A car bomb attack in Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok municipality kills three and injures 39. 2010 April 21 An M67 grenade is hurled at police officers standing to attention for the national anthem, killing one officer and wounding 48 others 2011 Jan 19 An attack at a Narathiwat army base kills four soldiers and wounds 13 others with 50 firearms stolen. Aug 24 At least 20 insurgents carry out an attack on an army base in Songkhla's Thepha district, killing a village defence volunteer and wounding another. 2012 March 31 Two car bombs in Songkhla kill 11 and wound 127, while another car bomb at the Lee Gardens Hotel in Hat Yai district results in three deaths and 416 injuries. July 20 A car bomb in Sungai Kolok district wounds nine. 2013 Feb 13 Insurgents carry out an attack on a marine corps base in Narathiwat's Bacho district. The clash kills 17 insurgents. 2014 July 25 A car bomb attack at the Holiday Hill Hotel in Yala's Betong municipality kills three and injures 42. 2015 June 3 Four soldiers are gunned down in Yala's Raman district. 2016 March 13 Nine people are wounded when bombs explode in six locations in Sungai Padi district and two places in Narathiwat's Cho Airong district. Insurgents lay siege to Cho Airong Hospital. Aug 12 Multiple bomb and arson attacks in Phuket, Phangnga, Surat Thani, Trang and Nakhon Si Thammarat kill four. 2017 April 6 26 bomb attacks in Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkla cause widespread blackouts. May 9 Two powerful bomb attacks at the Big C Supercentre in Pattani, injure 61 people.
