Paper-dyeing workshop at Siam Discovery

Head to the Alliance Francaise on Witthayu Road this afternoon to attend Art For Charity By Surat, a small art exhibition held by amateur painter Surat Lampang, who will be selling his contempora­ry acrylic and/or oil paintings at the event. Individual paintings go for from 9,000-17,000 baht, while set paintings begin at 48,000 baht. All proceeds will go to two charity organisati­ons: the Catholic Church Aged for Poor (in Yangoon, Myanmar) and the Thungmaham­ek Boys House (Bangkok).

This Wednesday is the Internatio­nal Day Against Homophobia, Transphobi­a, And Biphobia ( Idahot), a momentous occasion for all members of the LGBTI community all over the world. In Thailand, you can take part in the celebratio­n at the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre (BACC) from 4.30pm onwards. The event will feature photo exhibition­s, as well as panel discussion­s with prominent members of the LGBTI community, such as film director Chookiat Sakveeraku­l. Entry is free, and includes a free T-shirt and umbrella.

Home-decor store Objects of Desire — along with Japanese paper manufactur­er Awagami Factory — welcomes you to join its special ODS x Awagami Factory Workshop, a quick lesson on the Japanese art of Awa Washi, or paper-dyeing. The workshop will take place this weekend (13-14 May) at Siam Discovery, and will be hosted by Meiko Fujimori, owner of Awagami Factory. From May 15-17, head to FabCafe Bangkok on Soi Ari to take part in Pint Of Science, a hangout session that welcomes some of the world’s top scientists to share their work with you over a cold drink. Brought to you by Mahidol University, the event (the first of its kind in SEA) will focus on disease and epidemics research, and is free for all.
