Court denies bail for Akarakit
The Criminal Court yesterday refused Akarakit “Benz Racing” Worarojcharoendet, 30, and two other suspects bail in a case in which they were last Friday indicted for drugs conspiracy and accused of being linked to the suspected narcotics syndicate of arrested Lao national Xaysana Keopimpha.
The two others are Sansern “Natt” Rasanon, 25, and Angsuporn “Aum” Ina, 29.
Mr Akarakit’s bid to increase his bail surety to 3.5 million baht was rejected by the court, said a source.
Mr Sansern and Ms Angsuporn submitted new bail applications using the same sureties of 500,000 baht each, which they had submitted along with previous bail applications, said the source. They too were denied bail.
The three were indicted on multiple drug charges and for colluding to launder money, said the source. All of them have denied any wrongdoing.
The court said it would begin questioning witnesses and reviewing evidence on Aug 7.
With his bail requested rejected, Mr Akarakit was immediately taken to the special detention facility designated for drug suspects at Klong Prem Central Prison in Chatuchak district.
Mr Akarakit is facing charges after police claimed he was unable to properly explain how he had acquired a fleet of luxury vehicles including a Lamborghini Gallardo, a KTM 1290 Super Duke motorbike and a BMW motorcycle.
Police said income from his bike accessories shop was not enough for him to afford the 20-million-baht Lamborghini, which they believed was acquired with money from the alleged Lao drug lord’s network.
