Bitcoin was created by “Satoshi Nakamoto”, who published his invention in a research paper in October 2008. Mr Nakamoto was estimated to have mined 1 million bitcoins in the currency’s initial days. To this day, his true identity remains a matter of dispute.

An individual wanting to use bitcoin has to sign up to an exchange (brokerage) to create a digital currency wallet. A user can own more than one wallet. One can trade up to eight decimal places of a bitcoin.

The value of a bitcoin in US and Thai currencies as of last week was $2,545 and 86,761 baht, which is lower than its value in Indian rupees.
