Was US ever ‘safe’?

-

So, in response to the appalling terrorist attacks in London, US President Donald Trump via his “tweets” used the opportunity for political gain and to promote his executive order, banning immigrants and refugees from Muslim-majority countries, which was struck down by an appeals court in his bid to “make America safe again”!

Based on statements from published research studies, since Sept 11, 33 Americans have died as a result of terrorism launched by their Muslim neighbours — not even 1% of the 180,000 Americans murdered during that period for reasons unrelated to terrorism. In just the past year, mass shootings in the United States killed 66 Americans, twice as many fatalities as from Muslim-American terrorism in all 11 years since Sept 11.

Even if the courts were to uphold Mr Trump’s travel ban, the impact this would have remains unclear. But it would only af- fect the less-than-1% of deaths resulting from Muslim-related terrorism. I don’t hear of any proposals by Mr Trump to deal with the other 99% of murders resulting from non-terrorist “internal American” reasons, and if Mr Trump wants to make America safe again, this assumes that at some period in the past America was safe. When was that exactly? JC
