National Gallery presents ‘Strive To Fail’ artwork

-

Celebrated Thai artist Vichaya Mukdamanee will present a solo exhibition titled “Strive To Fail” at the National Gallery Bangkok from today to June 29.

This time his new works will take viewers to explore “failure” as an intellectual resource to generate an unending process of questioning that keeps him active and provides lively engagement with the process of creativity.

On display are performance art, video art, photographs, drawings and paper and canvas paintings created during the past three years as part of his artistic research for his doctorate in fine arts at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. Through intermediate exploration, all of these productions are interrelated to each other and reflect the ongoing route of the self-learning journey.

One artwork gives inspiration and lays the foundation for another. The end of the project, for Vichaya, is not the end of the journey, but another turning point where he learns from the past and moves into the future. In other words, the artworks provide evidence as to how failure operates in merging the art and research together as one life-learning experience.

Vichaya has exhibited in Thailand and overseas. His artwork has been shown in group exhibitions in the US, Singapore and South Korea. He’s currently a lecturer at Silpakorn University.

The National Gallery is on Chao Fa Road and opens Wednesday to Sunday, 9am-4pm. Call 02-281-2224. Visit www.winmukdamanee.com.
