Promotions revoked for 2 DSI officials

Permanent secretary for justice Wisit Wisitsoraat has transferred two Department of Special Investigation (DSI) deputy chiefs back to their old posts after finding their appointments were unlawful.

Under the order, Pol Lt Col Prawut Wongseenin returned to the Bureau of Consumer Protection and Environment Crime as its chief and Pol Lt Col Korrawat Panprapakorn will again supervise the Bureau of Regional Operation Centre.

The two are among six senior DSI officials transferred back to their old posts after the Office of the Civil Service Commission suggested the Justice Ministry cancel their promotions, following a legal mistake in their appointments.

The term of a selection committee, which proposed the six officials for promotion, ended before a meeting to officially endorse their appointments, Mr Wisit said yesterday.

The committee’s term ended on March 2 this year before a new selection committee was scheduled to meet on the issue.

This prompted then permanent secretary for justice Charnchao Chaiyanukij to question whether the new committee could carry out the endorsement and subsequently asked the Civil Service Commission for advice, said deputy permanent secretary for justice Tawatchai Thaikyo.

The six officials assumed their new posts until the Civil Service Commission gave its recommendation to the Justice Ministry on Jun 15.

“As their boss, I understand how they feel,” said DSI chief Paisit Wongmuang in reaction to the transfer blunder.

However, when t he mistake was detected, the ministry had no other choice but to try and fix the problem immediately, he said.
