Thai cotton will take centre stage during the 10th Fai Tor Jai fair which will be held at the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (Sacict) in the Bangsai district of Ayutthaya from tomorrow to Sunday, 10am-7pm.

Held under the concept of “Contemporary Thai Ways Through Hand-Woven Thai Cotton”, in order to raise awareness for the role of Thai cotton in daily life, the fair will open with a fashion show featuring 20 outfits from the Magic Beams collection by celebrated designer Ek Thongprasert, tomorrow at 11am.

The collection is inspired by the five special patterns of cotton-woven fabric from the Foundation for the Promotion of the Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques under the royal patronage of HM the Queen (Support), as well as King Bhumibol’s royal composition Magic Beams. More than 150 booths by members of Sacict will showcase and offer cotton fabrics and products. There will be an exhibition titled “From His Majesty’s Royal Kindness” to honour the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and HM Queen Sirikit, the patrons of Thai craftsmanship who encouraged cotton weaving to raise people’s incomes.

Craft masters, gifted craftspeople and their successors from across the country will also display their masterpieces that reflect local wisdom in Thai cotton during the “Cotton Weaving Community” exhibition.

There will be workshops on fabric-dyeing using natural dyes, tie-dyeing, making accessories from cotton fabric, and embroidery. Cotton-woven fabric featuring the aforementioned five special patterns from the Support will also be available for sale exclusively at the fair.

There is no admission fee. There will be free shuttle-bus service from three venues to the fair — in front of Future Park shopping centre (from 9am-5pm), Chiangrak Gate at Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus (from 9.30 am-6.30 pm) and BTS Mo Chit (8.30am-6pm).
