FROM THE ASHES
Greek Ambassador Pericles Boutos will display his photographic works at the “Fire/Regeneration — A Photographic Diary, 2007-2008” exhibition on Level G of Central Embassy, Phloenchit Road, from tomorrow until July 10.
Comprised of 80 works, the collection is from “After The Fire”, a photographic series he undertook after massive forest fires broke out in several areas across Greece in the summer of 2007.
Every week for a year he made the long trip from Athens to document the devastated land that slowly began to resurrect itself.
“The result is an extended diary of nature’s struggle for regeneration as testified through the cycle of seasons, both man-made and natural, from the tragedy of destruction to the glory of new growth and life, but also the fragility of regeneration,” said Boutos.
A diplomat since 1986, Boutos is also an avid photographer who has exhibited in Italy, Greece and the US. He has published three monographs — Moni
tor In Croatia (1993), Venice — Carnival Unmasked (1998) and Reversible (2005).
The opening ceremony is tomorrow at 6.30pm, followed by a talk by Dr Saranarat Kanjanavanit, Green World Foundation chairperson and an independent researcher with expertise in biology, geoscience and education. He will speak about the value of nature in the fight against climate change. Then five of the ambassador’s photographic works will be auctioned, with proceeds going to the Green World Foundation.
Besides the exhibition, a series of eco-friendly workshops will be held from July 7-10. Make a donation and join the workshops to learn how to transform plastic bottles and snack boxes into plant pots. Donations will support Central Group Loves The Earth, a campaign to save the environment.
