- BOONSONG KOSITCHOTETHANA

Leading travel site TripAdvisor has partnered with five leading Thai retail groups to enhance the experience for Chinese travellers when they shop in Bangkok.

The new collaboration comes in the wake of growing inbound travel interest from Chinese visitors, which soared 56% year-on-year last year, based on TripAdvisors’ page views from Chinese IPs (internet protocols) looking into Thailand.

Furthermore, data from TripAdvisor also shows that growth in inbound interest over the June-August

2016 period grew by 84% year-on-year.

This offer ing, available to users via TripAdvisor’s Chinese domain, was designed specifically with free, independent travellers from China in mind, as they tend to look to mobile devices for information to guide decision-making when in-destination.

Chinese users will be able to navigate a shopping category via the TripAdvisor China mobile web or app, where offers at retail points of interest from the Central Group, King Power, Siam Piwat Group, Terminal 21 and The Mall Group are available, according to TripAdvisor.

Aside from discounts and other promotions, users can access floor maps, brand directories and curated shopping guides for an enhanced shopping experience in Bangkok.

“Bangkok is one of the leading shopping capitals of the world and continues to be a top destination for the Chinese when they travel overseas,” said Aaron Hung, senior director of partnerships for TripAdvisor, Asia-Pacific.

“This feature will enrich the shopping experience in Bangkok as they will have access to special offers and other shopping recommendations.”

Piyawan Leelasompop, executive vicepresident for marketing at Central department store, said the partnership with TripAdvisor has allowed Central to engage more effectively with Chinese consumers by highlighting the strengths of the group’s offerings throughout Thailand.
