G-Dragon returns solo

Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani July 7 at 8pm and July 8 at 6pm Presented by Live Nation BEC-Tero, the “G-Dragon 2017 World Tour <ACT III, M.O.T.T.E> Live In Bangkok” will be the second solo concert in Thailand by top K-pop star G-Dragon, the stage name of rapper, singer-songwriter Kwon Ji-yong who is also the leader of Korean hip hop boyband Big Bang. The show will present Act III of his life or the third stage of his career.

July 12 at 7pm Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music presents “Musique de la Vie et de la Terre”, a pianoforte recital by Dr Chanyapong Thongsawan­g. The programme includes works by Lodovico Giustini, Haydn, Mozart and Schubert. The concert will be performed on a replica of Mozart’s pianoforte in Salzburg, rebuilt by German keyboard maker Susanne Merzdorf and imported to Thailand by 101 Piano and Strings. July 13 at 7pm The Embassy of Italy presents a Bangkok debut performanc­e by Italian piano duo Silvia Bellani and David Peroni who will showcase their deep musicality, style and brilliant technique through a repertoire of music for two pianos and one piano hour-hand by Dvovak, Ravel and Alkan. The duo have performed in the most important Italian music halls and festivals and won many internatio­nal prizes in the US, Bulgaria and Italy.

Held to celebrate HM King Maha Vajiralong­korn Bodindrade­bayavarang­kun’s 65th birthday anniversar­y, the “Royal Celebratio­n Concert: Stefan Vladar plays Schumann” will feature the world premiere of Sinfonia Siamindra written by Thai composer Narongrit Dhamabutra, Schumann’s Piano Concerto In A Minor Op 54 and Brahms’s Symphony No.2 Op 73. Directing the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will be Canadian conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe, with Austrian pianist Stefan Vladar as guest soloist.

Fun with aquatic life

The 29th “Pramong Nomklao” fair features various kinds of aquatic animals including collection­s of Siamese fighting fish in 60 different shades, many species of orange Siamese fighting fish, and rare giant aquatic animals such as Potamon bhumibol, the biggest freshwater crab in Thailand, a 4m-long alligator, and a 2m-long giant freshwater whipray. Also exhibited is the royal book about fish penned by HRH Princess Chulabhorn, The Royal Chemist Who Loves Fish.

The best dishes of Siam

The “Siam Food Festival” features a variety of outstandin­g dishes from favourite food shops and restaurant­s in the vicinity of Siam shopping area and those located at Siam Paragon, Siam Center and Siam Discovery. They are served at tuk-tuk kiosks where 33 three-wheel taxis have been modified as food trucks especially for this event. The festival also presents a wide range of Thai fruits including two tonnes of giant durians and pine apples direct from orchards, as well as sacks of rice grains straight from farmers. There is also an exhibition of 10 tuk-tuk vehicles redesigned under the theme of Thai food, rice and fruits by 10 artists and celebritie­s.

The “Fire/Regenerati­on — A Photograph­ic Diary, 2007-2008” exhibition features 80 photograph­ic works by Greek Ambassador to Thailand HE Pericles Boutos. They are from his “After The Fire” photograph­ic series he undertook after the 2007 Greek forest fires. The series documents the devastated land that slowly began to resurrect itself.

Held to mark the 40th anniversar­y of Jacques Prevert’s passing, “Les Collages de Jacques Prevert” exhibition features a selection of collages by the French poet and screenwrit­er who began collaging in the 40s. Although his first known collage dates back to 1943, it was not until 1948 that he engaged in this new form of artistic creation that has quickly become his passion.

The exhibition is divided into five halls reflecting the theme “2493”, the Buddhist year in which King Bhumibol began his reign. There are two special distances of 4.6 km and 13.2 km. There will be 45 plaques to be presented to the first five finishers of each age group, plus three trophies to the first three winning teams with the largest number of runners and one trophy for the runner with the fanciest costume. All runners will also have a chance to win 10 air tickets from Bangkok Airways.

CONTEST Art for Father

Government Savings Bank is accepting applicatio­ns for its “GSB Painting Contest” held under the theme “Omsilp: Life In The Reign Of King Rama IX”. It is open to Thai nationals and is divided into three categories — youths ages 7-13, youths ages 14-18 and the general public. Entrants are free to create art pieces in their own styles but the size of their entries should be 75cm-by-55cm for the first category, 76cm-by-56cm for the second and 150cm-by-180cm for the general public. Each entrant can submit no more than two paintings that must be original and have never been published or entered in a competitio­n before. The top winner of each category will receive a cash prize worth 50,000, 100,000 and 1 million baht, respective­ly, plus a trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
