- KOMSAN TORTERMVASANA

South Korean phone maker Samsung Electronics is set to launch Galaxy Note 8 in Thailand in September, which the company says is the biggest market for the Note series in Asean.

According to DJ Koh, president of mobile communications business at Samsung, the Galaxy Note 8 will continue to deliver innovation and new experiences to consumers with its display, design and processing power.

The Note series has been well accepted among Thai consumers.

Samsung sells its smartphones in 150 countries worldwide.

Citing the National Statistical Office of Thailand, Mr Koh said: “Mobile adoption rate among Thai consumers is 90%, making Thailand a very important market for Samsung.”

The country’s smartphone users are among the most active in Southeast Asia in terms of data consumption and daily time spent on devices.

In order to support the government’s national e-payment plan, Samsung Pay was introduced earlier this year to cater to the increasing demand for digital wallets.

As of March 2017, Samsung Pay has processed a total of more than 240 million global transactions.

Samsung Pay has already partnered with more than 870 banks worldwide, and will continue to expand its coverage and services to more users in the coming years.

In Thailand, Samsung introduced Samsung Pay in March, with the goal of attracting at least 1 million users in 2017.

Thailand is the ninth country out of 10 markets globally where Samsung has established its mobile payment presence, and the third country in Asia-Pacific.
