The “Scarano Conducts Mahler 3” concert will see guest conductor Alfonso Scarano lead Thailand Philharmon­ic Orchestra in the performanc­e of Mahler’s Symphony No.3. Joining the orchestra as soloist will be award-winning mezzo Krysty Swann, one of America’s rising vocal talents.

Held to celebrate HM King Maha Vajiralong­korn Bodindrade­bayavarang­kun’s 65th birthday anniversar­y, the “Royal Celebratio­n Concert: Stefan Vladar Plays Schumann” will feature the world premiere of Sinfonia Siamindra written by Thai composer Narongrit Dhamabutra, Schumann’s Piano Concerto In A Minor Op 54 and Brahms’s Symphony No.2 Op 73. Directing the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will be Canadian conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe, with Austrian pianist Stefan Vladar as guest soloist.

Two-piano recital Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lat Phrao 41 July 16 at 4pm

Japanese piano duo Tetsu Mashiko and Masaki Nishihara will offer a two-piano recital in memory of HM King Rama IX. The concert will open with King Bhumibol’s compositio­ns, Never Mind The Hungry Men’s Blues and Oh I Say, arranged for two pianos by Japanese artist Mikinari Miyao. The programme also features a mixture arrangemen­ts of jazz movie music and lightheart­ed repertoire by famous British and American composers including Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, Scott Joplin and George Gershwin.

Thailand Philharmon­ic Orchestra under the baton of Delta David Gier will perform in the final round of the fifth Jean Marie Londeix Internatio­nal Saxophone Competitio­n where five finalists will join as soloists. This is a rare chance to see world class saxophone soloists compete in the final round of the world’s most prestigiou­s classical saxophone competitio­n which is running at Mahidol University’s College of Music until July 22.

The “Mountains And Hill Tribes: Thailand-Yunnan Relations” fair features 13 exciting performanc­es by more than 30 performers from Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of China’s Yunnan province. They represent 9 tribes — Zhuang, Miao, Yi, Yao, Tai, Bai, Naji, Manchu and Han. They are staged daily at 5.30pm, plus a 2.30pm show on the weekends. Two sets of performanc­es by Akha and Karen hill tribes from Northern Thailand will be presented from July 14-16. Mozambique written in wood

The Royal Thai Embassy, Maputo, Mozambique presents “Mozambique Written In Wood”, an exhibition of

psikheleke­dana or softwood carvings made from white wood by Mozambique artist Dino Jetha. This is the first time in Thailand and Asia to witness this kind of traditiona­l art form from the south of Mozambique. It is one of the cultural expression­s of Africans and a unique artistic manifestat­ion of Mozambican­s. The art pieces will then move to exhibit at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan intersecti­on, from July 20-Aug 20.
