Ceramic crafts on display at Paragon
A thousand pieces of earthenware will take centre stage during the “Ceramic Art By Bangsai Royal Folk Arts And Crafts Centre” exhibition at the Lifestyle Hall, 2nd floor of Siam Paragon, Rama I, from tomorrow to Aug 3, 10am-7pm.
Organised by the Bangsai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Centre of the Support Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the exhibition will gather Thai earthenware created by craft masters and apprentices at the centre’s Department of Ceramics. The centre has long been recognised for producing ceramic items of quality and artistic value that won a multitude of awards from different ceramic competitions.
The highlights will be 120 ceramic arts and ceramic figurines in large sizes including Following In The King’s Footsteps, a distinctive work created especially for this exhibition by master Kittichai Suksumet. Instead of clay, cement was sculpted into the statue of the late monarch with decorative details inspired by his countless royal development projects. This sculpture will be available for sale at 300,000 baht.
Another interesting piece is a metal sculpture titled Knowledge, Passion And Unity by master Panom Semathong who took inspiration from King Rama IX’s royal instructions and chose to use metal as the major element combined with the blow-welding technique and thermal spray coating. It is priced at 50,000 baht.
Other smaller pieces of handmade ceramic works include pottery, speckled-leaf dishes, and painted dishes and trays. Also available will be hand-painted T-shirts with an exclusive design, priced at 250 baht. There will also be demonstrations on many distinct ceramic techniques such as moulding, painting and colouring.
Part of the proceeds from sales of the earthenware items will be presented to HM the Queen to fund the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques (Support).
