Capture the flag

- — Apipar Norapoompipat

Ahundred years ago, on Sept 28, 1917, His Majesty King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) issued a royal decree to officially adopt the five-striped, tricoloured flag that every Thai is familiar with today. The colours — red, white and blue — are said to stand for the people, religions and monarchy respectively, comprising the unofficial motto of the Kingdom.

To celebrate this auspicious event in history, Siam Center Idea Avenue presents a photography contest and an historical art, fashion and lifestyle showcase, “Colors Of Siam: Celebrate 100th Anniversary Of Thai National Flag”.

There is a chance to win 200,000 baht on the Thai-flag photo contest. Divided into two categories, smartphone photography and camera photography, Siam Center is encouraging the public to submit Thaiflag-inspired photos on either Facebook or Instagram, captioning them and then topping them off with the name of the campaign, “Siam Center Idea Presents Colors Of Siam”, and hashtags #SiamCenter #ColorofSiam. The contest will be judged by leading Thai photographers Nat Prakobsantisuk, Tanakorn Suntornnantakij and Amrit Chusuwan. The contest is open now until Sept 23, and winners will be announced on Sept 28.

Apart from the photo contest, there is the “Colors Of Siam: Photo Exhibition”, “Colors Of Siam: Fashion Exhibition” and “Colors Of Siam: Absolute Siam Products Special Collection”.

The photo exhibition, which takes place on the first floor of Siam Center, brings together leading and famous photographers Waranun Chutchawantipakorn, Wasan Pheungprasert and Punsiri Siriwetchapun to curate the show. Not only does it include works by famous photographers, there will also be a history exhibition for the general public to learn more about Thailand’s past.

The fashion exhibition on the same floor brings together 20 top Thai brand designers to organise and design over 20 fashion pieces inspired by the tricoloured flag. The show includes designs from Senada, Q Design and Play, Greyhound, Wonder Anatomie, Milin and so many more.

Last but not least, Siam Center has gathered special products inspired by the concept “Shade Of Thai”, sold at Absolute Siam on the second floor of Siam Center. The special collection will be presented by Kloset, ETC, Smiley Hound, Missile and Baking Soda.

Colors Of Siam: Photo Exhibition, Colors Of Siam: Fashion Exhibition and Colors Of Siam: Absolute Siam Products Special Collection run from Sept 7 to Oct 31.
