Tom Cruise plays pilot Barry Seal, formerly a commercial flyer and now a drug smuggler as well as CIA agent recruited to help counter the emerging communist threat in Central America. Based on a true story, the film recounts an episode when Barry gets involved with the Medellin cartel, a source of much embarrassm­ent to the Reagan White House.

An animated film featuring a cast of emoji characters who live in Textopolis (somewhere in the universe of your messaging app). When one emoji character doesn’t want to have just one facial expression, problems ensue, especially when his phone owner wants to hit on a girl. Directed by Tony Leondis.

Brigsby Bear

The Beguiled

His presence disturbs the calm of that all-female cocoon, run by Nicole Kidman’s Miss Martha, and leads to unexpected consequenc­es. Also starring Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

Ryan Reynolds plays a bodyguard hired to protect a notorious hitman (Samuel L Jackson) as he’s about to testify in court. In this comedy-fuelled flick, they have to race against time before the villain (Gary Oldman) derails their plan. Also starring Salma Hayek. Directed by Patrick Hughes.

An Inconvenie­nt Sequel

Al Gore returns to the screen in this sequel of The Inconvenie­nt Truth (2006). The new film looks at the progress made to tackle the problem of climate change and tracks Gore’s efforts to persuade government leaders to invest in renewable energy. Directed by Bonni Cohen, Jon Shenk.

The Dark Tower

Adapted from a Stephen King novel, The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughe­y in a supernatur­al Western. Elba is Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger who has to prevent the menacing Walter (McConaughe­y) from destroying the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. Directed by Nikolaj Arcel.

Annabelle: Creation

A spin-off from the horror hit The Conjuring, the film tells the origin story of the creepy doll Annabelle. Set in the 1960s, a group of orphaned girls take shelter with the generous Mullins family. Soon one of the girls encounters the spirit of the family’s deceased daughter and her doll, which unlocks the demon that has been suppressed for years. Directed by David Sandberg.
