Explore the tastes and traditions of Shoryudo, complete with ninjas
The best food, desserts, products and cultural delights from the Shoryudo region of Japan will be presented during the Mall Shopping Center Japan Discovery Shoryudo: Dragon Rise Region at the Mall Bangkapi, Lat Phrao, from Friday to Sept 18.
Held to celebrate the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan, the fair will get visitors to learn more about Shoryudo, nicknamed the “Rising Dragon” region. It covers nine prefectures in central Japan: Toyama, Ishikawa, Fukui, Nagano, Gifu, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie and Shiga.
Food connoisseurs will sample t he original Shoryudo recipes such as Hida gyu, the No.1 premium beef from Hida in Gifu Prefecture; Hitsumabushi (eel rice) from Shizuoka Prefecture and Mie Prefecture; Miso Katsu, a regional speciality of Aichi Prefecture’s Nagoya; and Kanazawa Gold Curry, regarded by the Japanese media as the very best curry in Japan.
Highlighted products will be premium tea from Shizuoka Prefecture, the largest producer of tea in Japan; premium processed wasabi from Azumino in Nagano Prefecture, location of the world’s largest wasabi farm; Uiro (traditional Japanese steamed cake) and Unagi pie (a traditional Japanese confection). Also available will be beauty products and souvenirs .
The fair will also bring the Iga Ninja show to debut in the Kingdom. It will be performed by Ashura, a ninja troupe from the Ninja Museum of Igaryu, on Sept 8-10. Audiences will be treated to the arts and crafts of the ninja warrior, and can discover witty contraptions in a ninja household complete with secret passageways and traps.
Another attraction of the 11-day event is a replica of the historical village of Shirakwako renowned for its traditionally thatched houses.
The village is located in the mountains in Gifu prefecture and is one of Unesco’s World Heritage Sites. It will be displayed alongside replicas of similarly sloped- and thatched-houses from the Hida Folk Village in Takayama.
The fair will repeat at the Mall Korat in Nakhon Ratchasima from Nov 11-21.
