Mobile app is your own personal tour guide
Visiting a museum in Thailand today is more fun and convenient than before thanks to the “Museums Pool” mobile app, which is akin to having a personal tour guide in your front pocket.
Developed by the National Electronics Computer and Technology Centre (Nectec), the application is designed to assist museum-goers as they view the content of an exhibit by scanning the QR code attached to the display. The app will then show up images, audio and video clips to help visitors better understand the content of the exhibit.
La-or Kovavisaruch, researcher at Nectec, said that the application was developed for the convenience of museum visitors.
At present, the app’s database is being used at the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum in Ayutthaya province, the Science Museum in Pathum Thani, and the Information Technology Museum also in Pathum Thani.
The Museums Pool app comprises two major parts: the front end that connects and provides services to museum-goers and the back end, which assists museum officials with management tasks.
“At the back end, management can keep records and statistics on visitors so they can analyse which spots are most popular in the museum,” La-or said.
She said the application is expected to expand to other regions as Nectec has been in discussions with museums in Chiang Mai.
The application is available in Thai, English and Chinese and has been downloaded about 5,000 times.
