A heaping serving of Italian cinema
Seven critically acclaimed Italian movies will be presented during the Italian Film Festival Bangkok at Quartier CineArt, 4th floor of EmQuartier, Sukhumvit, from Sept 12-18.
Held in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy and the Dante Alighieri Cultural Association, the festival will portray a contemporary image of Italian culture through seven of Italy’s best cinematographic productions, with genres ranging from comedy to drama, science-fiction to documentary.
The festival will open with the screening of Like Crazy (La Pazza Gioia) on Sept 12 at 8pm. Directed by Paolo Virzi, the 2016 comedy tells the story of two women from different backgrounds who become friends while being treated at a mental institution.
The other six films in the line-up are The Francigena Path (I Volti Della Via Francigena), a documentary directed by Fabio Dipinto; God Willing (Se Dio Vuole), a comedy directed by Edoardo Maria Falcone; Feather (Piuma), a drama directed by Roan Johnson;
Perfect Strangers (Perfetti Sconosciuti), a comedy directed by Paolo Genovese;
I, Harlequin (Io, Arlecchino), a drama directed by Matteo Bini and Giorgio Pasotti; and The Invisible Boy (Il Ragazzo Invisibile), a fantasy-superhero film by award-winning director Gabriele Salvatores.
Prior to the screening of each film, a selection of 14 entries from the Italian-Thai 90 Seconds Short Film Competition will be presented. The competition was open to both Thai nationals and expats living in Thailand to produce 90-second short films under the theme “Colour Of Italy”.
All seven films come with both English and Thai subtitles. Tickets cost 180 and 200 baht per seat (700 baht for a special couple’s seat).
