Kingdom eye another romp at SEA meet

Thailand have stayed on course for another successful finish at the Southeast Asian Golf Team Championsh­ips.

The Kingdom’s golfers were yesterday atop in all but one event heading into today’s final round at the par-72 Gading Raya Padang Golf & Klub in Serpong, Indonesia.

While Singapore surged three shots clear of Thailand in the team event of the Putra Cup, Thailand’s Kosuke Hamamoto fired a four-under 68 for a two-shot advantage in the individual category.

Singapore were tied with Thailand in the team event at the start of the day.

In the Santi Cup, the Thai women stayed on top with a total score of 22-under 410, six shots ahead of Indonesia in the team event.

Manuschaya Zeemakorn kept her individual lead for the third successive day. She shot a 70 for 12-under 204, two clear of teammate Atthaya Thitikul (67). Indonesia’s Patricia Sinolungan (71) slipped to third on eight-under 208.

In the Lion City Cup (boys U17), Ranchanapo­ng Yooprayong sat alone at the top on nine-under 207 after his second successive 70. Teammate Atiruj Winaicharo­enchai, who shared the lead with Ranchanapo­ng after the second round, slipped two shots back after a 72.

Wichayanon Chothirunr­ungrueng (72) shared third place with Indonesia’s Kentaro Nanayama (70) on four-under 212.

Thailand also retained their lead in the team event after finishing on 18-under 414, 14 shots ahead of Indonesia. Third-placed Malaysia were on 430.

In the Kartini Cup (girls U17), Thanrada Piddon (66) extended her individual lead to six shots, finishing the third round on 14-under 202. Teammate Kan Banbodee (67) moved to second place, three shots ahead of Natasha Andreaon of Malaysia (72).

Thailand also led the team event on 22-under 410, 14 shots ahead of Malaysia. Indonesia were third on 431.

The Thai golfers swept all individual and team titles in Singapore last year.
