Master chef Albert Kooy, though not yet pinned with Michelin stars, is one of the most eminent personalities in modern Dutch cuisine.

A holder of the title SVH Master Chef, conferred by Stichting Vakbekwaamheid Horeca, the Dutch hospitality organisation, Kooy has devoted his life to perfecting his native cuisine while pushing it forward and exploring influences as diverse as French, Swiss and Japanese cuisine.

He’s also the author of three best-selling cookbooks, host of television programmes and certified expert in various food and wine specialities.

Kooy will be in Bangkok next week to showcase his famous rendition of Dutch cuisine at Seasonal Tastes restaurant of Westin Grande Sukhumvit during their Culinary Dutch promotion from Sept 13-17.

Among the featured dishes during the five-day event are jachtschotel hachee, a traditional Dutch lasagne with layers of beef, onion and bay leaf served with red cabbage and mashed potatoes; erwtensoep, a pea soup with celery, leeks and pork belly; andijvie stamp, a Dutch endive with potato, crispy bacon and meatballs in gravy; poffertjes, a fluffy pancake with butter and powdered sugar; and rice pudding with berry sauce.

Kooy’s six-course wine dinner, which is the event’s highlight, will be held on Sept 16.

Priced at 2,750 baht net per person, the dinner will present, for example, his creations of rollmops with beetroot; schnitzel of eggplant; shrimp Bolognaise; hachee bapao; and Dutch apple pie.
