Buakaw in a class of his own

- KEVIN P NOONE

AllStarFight promotions put on their second event last Saturday night at the Workpoint TV studios, with a near capacity crowd in attendance.

The successful night was rounded off with a ruthless performance of Buakaw Banchamek’s ring guile and masterful cunning.

Buakaw’s opponent was formidable Ukrainian Sergei Kuliaba, a veteran of over 100 fights, who was fresh off a sizable victory over Belarus’ Andrei Kulebin.

The opening stanza saw Buakaw lure Kuliaba into the middle of the ring for the near entirety of the round, picking his shots at will, with a supreme sense of methodical precision.

In the second round, the No.1 global superstar of Muay Thai put on an elbow clinic, landing a multitude of thunderous blows to the head and face of his opponent, one of which sent the Ukrainian to the canvas for an eight count.

By the time, the referee had finished his count, the ringside bell sounded to end the second round.

Kuliaba wandered back to his corner with two freshly squeezed war wounds to his nose, compliments of those elbows from Buakaw.

The third and final round saw Kuliaba clearly needing a knockout to win the bout — everybody in the arena knew it.

Buakaw could have been forgiven for taking his foot of the gas, but true to his nature, he didn’t, and instead rained more punishment down on the heart and soul of Kuliaba.

The steely Ukrainian survived the constant onslaught all the way to the final bell as Buakaw’s hand was raised in a unanimous victory.

Ringside commentators for Fox Sports were equally impressed by the ring prowess displayed by Buakaw, stating that the decorated veteran of over 300 fights put on a tremendous exhibition of exhilarating Muay Thai skills.

The card also featured two current champions from Rajadamnern and Lumpinee stadiums.

Sibmuen from Chuwattana gym had a monstrous battle against Kulebin, winning on points, while Buakiew from Sitsongpeenong gym took home a narrow victory over a Ukrainian opponent.
