It’s extremely hard to get on any tour

-

Each week about 140 players tee it up at any given tournament. After two days this number is cut down to roughly half. Only those who play on Saturday and Sunday will make any money.

If you consistently ‘make the cut’ you’s going to have a healthy bank balance. However, it’s hard to get to the PGA Tour (or any ‘tour’ for that matter), and even if you’re lucky enough to earn your card, the line of players trying to take that passport to some money is seemingly endless.

Evaluation of careers in golf are based on money and wins. But how should the career of a player who didn’t win often or at all but was able to play tournament golf for a long time be measured? Recently there have been talk that it’s very hard to get on any tour yet some players have been playing average golf for far too long while managing to stay on tour year after year. Basically every tour is made up of about 130 exempt players each year (top 125 and a few other exceptions), plus the conditionally exempt groups. If your are not one of the faces you see consistently on TV come Sunday, then your one aim is to stay in the top two-thirds of the tour each and every year.

Out of Bounds: Common sense is like deodorant, those who need it most never use it.
