EVERYTHING ISAN
Bangkok Art and Culture Centre will present a myriad of activities to get visitors to re-examine “being Isan” amid global changes during the “Isan Contemporary Report” exhibition, which will kick off tomorrow and run until April 15. The opening ceremony is today at 6.30pm.
The exhibition is the outcome of the art centre’s research project of the same title that explores different phenomena in the Northeast, reflecting the dynamic growth and self-determination of the Isan people in relation to global changes. The project also aims to widen space for education, exchange ideas and understanding of t the issues that form a sense of localisat tion of this fascinating region.
The picture of “contemporary Isan” i in terms of Isan people, their ways of l life, tradition and culture will be presented through various artistic mediu ums including paintings, photographs, v videos and installations by 12 groups of Isan artists and photographers in the M Main Gallery, 9th floor.
The artist line-up includes Chokchai T Tukpoe, Thaworn Kwamsawat, Songwit Pimpakun, Boonnam Sasood, Paisarn A Am-pim, Thitiya Lao-an, Pattarapong Sripanya, Maitree Siriboon, Roengrit Kongmuang, Worawit Kaewsrinoum, Sompop Budtarad, Adisak Phupa and Realframe.
Other activities will be a curator t talk, an artist talk, workshops, board g games, storytelling that portrays Isan culture, seminars on Isan literature that has inspired many artists and writers and a music festival featuring art and culture of the present day.
Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is on Pathumwan intersection and opens Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-9pm.
