As as much it is Instagram- culinary blessed, ridden the Bangkok dining scene has never been crazier about afternoon tea affairs than now. Through a fanciful selection of sweet and savoury items, the teatime finger food offers modern-day diners a photogenic allure that promises taste bud contentment. And that’s what members of the Instagram generation are seeking. Recently rated among the most favourite places for the whimsical and high-flown delicacies is the Living Room at the Park Hyatt Bangkok.

The hotel’s afternoon tea sets have been selling well since its start in 2016, with selections rotated and updated regularly.

Launched earlier this week was a new afternoon tea menu by the hotel’s newly-appointed pastry chef Kevin Lee.

His creations for the teatime feast in Bangkok revive classical concepts while blend in contemporary twists. It also reflects his intermixed roots from France and Hong Kong by bursting culinary borders between the East and West.

The current afternoon tea, priced at 800 baht for a personal serving, or 1,400 baht for a set shared by two guests, consists of 10 bite-sized treats complemented by piping pot Mariage Frères tea or Illy coffee. Of the set, savoury items came on a separate plate and did not intermingle with the sweet counterparts, which I really like for it feels more decorous.

The selection included four miniatu re open -faced sandwiches of various toppings. The current variations include beetroot-marinated, house-smoked salmon with lemon zest-infused sour cream and dill; aged Parma ham with French green peas purée; coriander-seethed guacamole with feta cheese, charcoal-grilled corn and pomegranate; and crabmeat with classic white cocktail sauce and caviar. All served on sourdough bread.

The colourful and aromatic repertoire of sweets, which arrived on a glass stand, showcased the likes of a fresh blueberry tartlet; a mango-mint mouse cheesecake; a chewy and cakey Valrhona chocolate bar with milk chocolate cream; a Battenberg coconut cake with jelly coating; a crispy-skinned Matcha croque en bouche pastry ball with Japanese green tea cream filling; and icy bonbons — a vanilla ice cream in chocolate-almond shell.

Apart from 10 choices of French tea and a collection of Italian coffee to wash the food down, an additional option of Bollinger Special Brut Champagne is offered at 800 baht per glass.

The Living Room afternoon tea is available daily 2-5pm. For reservations call 02-012-1234.
