Panamanian comedy with hint of Romeo And Juliet
TK Park will continue the Contemporary World Film Series with a screening of Donaire Y Esplendor (Grace & Splendour) from Panama on April 28 at 4pm. This is the first time a Panama movie will be presented in Thailand.
Directed by Arturo Montenegro, the romantic comedy is one of the newest films from the Central American nation and has won the hearts of audiences since its release last September.
Hailed as the Romeo And Juliet of carnival comedy, it has a large and assorted range of colourful characters, plenty of fun, action, melodrama, ribald humour, in a film that is both social comedy and sumptuous entertainer.
It portrays the beauty, energy and variety of this unique country, with its lush beaches, mountains and lively cityscapes, not to mention passionate people and stunning Carnival spirits.
Set in the small town of Las Tablas, the film centres on the rivalry between the residents of Up Street and Down Street, each headed by Carnival Queens who hate each other. A major crisis erupts in the town when the sultry daughter and the handsome son of the rival streets fall passionately in love with each other. The matter has to be resolved, and this happens dramatically, during the peak Carnival period.
The screening is supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Panama whose Ambassador Maria del Carmen Martinez will introduce the film. Snacks and drinks will be served after the screening.
The film is in Spanish with English subtitle. TK Park is on the 8th floor, Zone D of CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Road. Entry fee is 20 baht.
