South Korean pianist offers recital at Fortune Town
South Korean pianist Dr Hyoung Wuk Kim will give a recital at Siam Ratchada Auditorium, Fortune Town, Ratchadaphisek Road, on May 8 at 7pm.
Presented by D&M Music Studio and Yamaha Ratchadaphisek Music School, the evening will see the versatile recitalist and chamber musician perform a repertoire of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No.23 In F Minor, Op 57, Appassionata; Ligeti’s Musica Ricercata II and Liszt’s Dante Sonata.
Wuk Kim took up piano lessons at the age of six and developed a wide interest in various musical instruments, such as the saxophone, trombone and the classical guitar. Upon graduating from high school, he performed as an electric guitarist in a heavy metal band and as a trumpeter in the South Korean military band.
At 22, he made the challenging decision to play the piano professionally, and his performances have garnered national acclaim as he has been recognised for his remarkable interpretations.
He won prizes in several competitions and played in many recitals throughout the US, including Texas, California, Missouri, New York and Virginia.
He has been invited to give solo concerts by many educational institutions, such as the University of Syracuse, the University of Central Missouri, East Tennessee State University and Nazareth University.
He brings a unique perspective and approach to his teaching at the Eastman School of Music (where he received a doctorate in music), The Lighthouse Music School and Aria’s School of Music. Many of his students have represented their developing musicianship and successes by winning competitions and performing with the orchestra.
Tickets cost 600 baht (300 baht for students) and are available at the door.
