TCEB scheme to strengthen Mice venues
The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is set to list 114 Mice (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) venues by 2021 that meet international standards to cope with higher demand from domestic and overseas Mice bookings.
TCEB president Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya said the number of business events is increasing thanks to the economic rebound and political stability.
To support the rising trend, the agency is working on a Thailand Mice Venue Standard (TMVS) to strengthen venue standards both inside and outside Bangkok.
Mr Chiruit said TMVS was created to help venue owners develop or improve their facilities and services to meet global requirements.
This year, a total of 107 Mice venues with 332 function rooms have been certified by TMVS in Bangkok as well as secondary provinces. Of the number, 46 are function rooms located at convention centres, 265 at hotels and resorts, and 21 rooms located at public and private centres.
There are seven exhibition centres with a total of 17 large function rooms recognised, such as Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Impact Muang Thong Thani, Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall, Royal Paragon Hall, and Centara Grand at CentralWorld.
Mr Chiruit said the TMVS project that began this year will run until 2021.
“We aim to list 114 venues that meet the standards in three years,” he said.
For the remainder of this year, the TCEB will help Mice venues in five major cities — Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Khon Kaen — secure ISO certification for meeting room and exhibition venue categories.
The agency is also set to strengthen standards for the special big event category that covers entertainment, cultural events and other kinds of big celebrations.
Big events that need to be certified must have security for authorised persons, event management teams, supporting areas such as parking, safety and security components, and assembly points.
