The final curtain is closing at the Lido Theatre on May 31. To bid farewell to the 50-year-old movie house, Mongkol Cinema is inviting moviegoers to take part in its goodbye activities.

First, Mongkol Cinema is screening two tear-jerking films: Tonight, At Romance Thea

tre and Kids On The Slope. Starring Japanese model and actor Kentaro Sakaguchi and actress Haruka Ayase, Tonight, At Romance

Theatre is a Japanese romance fantasy that tells the story of two people who are in love but cannot be together, because one is a director from the real world while the other is a princess in a black-and-white film. Tonight, At

Romance Theatre also deals with the collapse of classic movie houses following the rising popularity of television.

Kids On The Slope, on the other hand, is a coming-of-age film on friendship, dreams and first love — teen memories presented through rising Japanese stars Nana Komatsu, Yuri Chinen and Taishi Nakagawa.

As part of Mongkol Cinema’s “Farewell To Our Theatre” activities, those coming for the screening of Tonight, At Romance Theatre on May 31 at 6.45pm and Kids On The Slope at 8.45pm will receive a movie poster and a chance to win a special copyrighted T-shirt. This is also the last chance to take photos with Lido’s famous yellow-jacketed ushers.

The Lido Theatre first opened its doors in 1968 as a 1,000-seat movie palace with

Guns For San Sebastian as the first film on the marquee. After the theatre was severely damaged by fire in 1993, it was renovated and turned into a multiplex of three cinemas with a total of 633 seats resuming its operation in 1994.
