Rainy season officially begins

-

WEATHER: The Meteorological Department yesterday announced the start of this year’s rainy season, saying it officially began on Saturday and will last until mid-October.

With frequent rain in most parts of the country as well as the presence and the influence of the southwest monsoon in the Andaman Sea and southern Thailand, the rainy season is here, said Wanchai Sak-udomchai, director-general of the department, in an announcement.

However, rainfall is forecast to be poor in some areas between mid-June and mid-July, which is expected to affect farming areas without an efficient irrigation system, he said.

The rainy season is forecast to end around mid-October in upper Thailand while the South, especially the eastern coast will continue to experience rainfall until December, he said.
