BMA to build more homes for elderly

-

CITY: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) says it is to build more housing for the elderly.

Deputy governor Thaweesak Lertprapan said a new housing project for seniors will be located in the compound of Sirindhorn Hospital in Prawet district. In the first phase, Sirindhorn Hospital will be renovated to better suit them. The budget will be allocated in the 2019 fiscal year.

He said it is important that the housing project is located near a hospital. The deputy governor said there are more than 900,000 elderly people in Bangkok and that number is expected to increase to 1.5 million in 10 years. Currently, there are two housing projects for the elderly, known as Ban Bang Kae, operated under the BMA.
