Cops on booze alert for holiday
RELIGION: Police will be watching closely to make sure there is no alcohol on sale on Visakha Bucha Day.
Deputy police spokesman Kritsana Pattanacharoen said national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda has ordered officers in Bangkok and the provinces to strictly enforce the law when it comes to the ban on alcohol sales on major Buddhismt days.
They have been ordered to check restaurants, karaoke shops, transport terminals and gas stations.
“Officers were also told to set up checkpoints to check on drivers. Police officers have also been asked to cooperate whenever their help is needed by public health officers,” he said. Anyone found selling alcohol before midnight tonight will get a six-month jail term and/or a 10,000-baht fine.
