Holding off the signs of ageing

-

In her early 40s, Anne Thongprasom won’t be counting the candles on her birthday cake. “Just ignore the numbers,” said the actress and TV producer, who along with Araya A. Hargate fronts the “Never Surrender” campaign launched by L’Oreal Paris last week, at Siam Paragon’s Fashion Hall.

At the event, the two brand ambassadors shared their views on the inevitability of ageing.

“Women may worry when they hit their 30s or 40s. But being more mature, we should become stronger in accepting any circumstances, including the natural ageing process,” said Anne.

The campaign encourages women to embrace ageing but not to give up on fighting back the tell-tale signs, by stepping up the skincare routine with Youth Code pre-essence as well as Revitalift x3 and Revitalift Dermalift formulas.

“We can’t stop the ageing process but we can do a lot to arrest wrinkles, which requires discipline in applying skincare products as well as taking proper care of ourselves. A healthy diet, for instance, will have a positive effect externally on the complexion,” said Anne, who has been in show business for almost three decades. Her acting career, however, has taken a toll on her skin. Outdoor filming exposes the skin to UV radiation while indoors, it is susceptible to harsh lighting. Moreover, repeated facial expressions such as squinting, smiling or frowning, causes premature wrinkles.

“The overuse of facial muscles in emotionally portraying a character has given me wrinkles, particularly those between my brows, which is one of the eight signs of ageing,” said the veteran actress. “Over the years, the eight signs have all gradually become noticeable, so my skincare routine emphasises these key areas.”

L’Oreal Paris has identified the eight signs of ageing as forehead lines, lines between the brows, crow’s feet, sagging eyelids, nasolabial folds, loss of firmness on cheeks, undefined contours and sagging neck.

To keep the skin in a good condition from within, Araya believes in following a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. Her holistic approach to improving general well-being further emphasises a positive attitude towards ageing.

“We can celebrate ageing in recalling the good things that have happened in our lives,” said the actress, who gave birth to twin boys last September.

“Motherhood makes me look older, I reckon, but I’m doing great in my 30s. And it will be even better in my 40s,” Araya said.
