The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will pay a tribute to Italian composer Gioachino Rossini with a performance of his operatic masterpieces during the “Rossini 150 Years” concert at Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, tomorrow at 8pm.

The programme will highlight his best known opera buffa, Il Barbiere Di Siviglia (The Barber Of Seville), and its most loved arias — Temporale, Dunque Io Son, and Una Voce Poco Fa. His contrasting operatic dramma giocoso L’Italiana In Algeri (An Italian Girl In Algiers) will be represented by the contralto cavatina Cruda Sorte, whilst opera semiseria La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie) will reveal his slightly more serious side.

The concert will also explore Rossini through some of the composers that influenced him and the composers he, in turn, influenced, namely Mozart, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini and Mascagni.

Michel Tilkin will return to conduct the RBSO after having made a very successful start in his exciting new role as music director in recent concerts. Set to explore Rossini’s charming wit and inspired memorable melodic invention with the orchestra will be three vocal soloists with wide operatic experience.
