In­mates en­listed for com­mu­nity work

The Corrections De­part­ment is pre­par­ing to mo­bilise 3,000 in­mates to join a com­mu­nity ser­vice pro­gramme this month in hon­our of His Majesty the King.

Pol Col Naras Saves­tanan, the de­part­ment’s di­rec­tor-gen­eral, said 142 pris­ons na­tion­wide will se­lect 3,000 in­mates for the pro­gramme to mark His Majesty’s 66th birth­day which falls on July 28.

He said the pro­gramme will also pre­pare the in­mates for their re­turn to so­ci­ety, adding the selected in­mates must have good be­hav­iour records and be near­ing the end of their sen­tences.

Of the 3,000, 180 in­mates will be selected from six fa­cil­i­ties in Bangkok and Non­thaburi to help clear clogged sew­ers in Non­thaburi’s Pak Kret district, he said.
