Inmates enlisted for community work
The Corrections Department is preparing to mobilise 3,000 inmates to join a community service programme this month in honour of His Majesty the King.
Pol Col Naras Savestanan, the department’s director-general, said 142 prisons nationwide will select 3,000 inmates for the programme to mark His Majesty’s 66th birthday which falls on July 28.
He said the programme will also prepare the inmates for their return to society, adding the selected inmates must have good behaviour records and be nearing the end of their sentences.
Of the 3,000, 180 inmates will be selected from six facilities in Bangkok and Nonthaburi to help clear clogged sewers in Nonthaburi’s Pak Kret district, he said.
