MYNX’S PRENATAL BLUES, POO GETS CRABBY, POJ CAVES IN

-

Awaiting the baby bump

A young presenter who severed ties with the teen TV star who allegedly made her pregnant is fighting back against claims she made the whole thing up.

Sawaphat “Mynx” Soonthornan, 23, who in June cut her ties with her ex-boyfriend, actor Cholatorn “Captain” Kongyingyong, from the teenage series Love Sick, insisted last week she had signed up for prenatal care.

However, she has yet to present Captain’s family with results of an ultrasound test or any other documents from the hospital to counter their doubts about whether she is indeed carrying their child.

The saga revived last week after Captain, who has kept silent about the drama since both families fronted the media in June after news of Mynx’s pregnancy first leaked, left a post at a popular Twitter hashtag, “Mynx Poh Taek,” which suggests Mynx had made up the pregnancy claim.

An adviser to his family, Maew, insisted Captain hit the hashtag by mistake as he was scrolling through Twitter posts, and didn’t mean to have a dig at Mynx. He quickly deleted the tweet, but not before someone captured the image. His tweet, deliberate or not, coincides with the purported threemonth mark of Mynx’s pregnancy.

Mynx said last month she had earlier visited Bumrungrad Hospital with her mother to sign up for prenatal care, but they told her to come back at the threemonth mark, when the pregnancy was older. Captain’s family says it has yet to see any evidence she is pregnant, as she has severed ties.

Mynx’s family, who have vowed to raise the child without Captain’s help until he is old enough to “accept responsibility”, has not been in touch with Captain’s since their joint appearance before the media.

However, even if she is not talking to her former love, she is still responding to netizens’ questions about whether she is really carrying their child.

In May, in response to netizens who suggested she had dug up images of a pregnancy testing kit from the internet, Mynx said she carried out the test at her own home, and it confirmed she was indeed pregnant.

Captain’s family, who went before the media with her family when news of the pregnancy leaked, had acknowledged the child was his, she said. The two parted ways after he initially failed to come clean about the pregnancy and relations between the families broke down.

While public sympathy initially swung towards Mynx, who was able to show that, contrary to his initial claims, Captain knew about the pregnancy, netizens later started digging into the young woman’s past.

Posting in response to Captain’s brief tweet, Mynx wrote acidly: “You’re lying...making yourself look good, and flinging dirt at others. Don’t behave so poorly.”

Leaked chats in which she responded to various netizens about why she has failed to offer evidence of her pregnancy also surfaced last week.

In one, Mynx confirmed she had now signed up for prenatal care, but said the doctor did not give her a booklet to record the progress of her pregnancy, as is normally the custom. “They gave me an internet link instead,” she said. “Oh, never mind...you can think whatever you like. I can’t make the ignorant understand,” she told her inquirer.

Another netizen asked if she is now under an obstetrician’s care, why she won’t release images from her ultrasound scan. Referring to Captain, she replied: “The person who should see it doesn’t appear interested. Why should I show it to anyone else?”

Responding to reports that Mynx, despite being pregnant, had been to a cosmetic surgery clinic for a nose job, another netizen asked: “Can you still get your nose done even when you are pregnant?” Mynx replied curtly: “You asking this question with all the intelligence you can muster, right?”

On social media, Mynx later released an image of herself about town in which she appears to be carrying a small baby bump. Speaking for Captain’s family, meanwhile, adviser Maew confirmed they would like to see proof from the hospital.

“We can’t harass her, as it could affect her psychologically,” he said. “However, time will tell soon enough anyway if she was telling the truth.”

Rocker loses his rag

Veteran folk musician Pongsit “Poo” Kamphee, a persistent critic of youth hooliganism at his concerts, is under fire after allegedly striking a fan at a Buri Ram eatery last week.

Fan Ithipol Keannilsiri laid a complaint with Buri Ram police after the July 5 incident, when he said Poo and his bodyguards hit him after he pestered the rocker for autographs and photos.

The complainant said he had been out with friends and stopped for a meal at the khao tom eatery early that morning. He saw Poo there at another table with his band, and asked him to sign his guitar.

Mr Ithipol said Poo agreed, and also posed for a photograph. He was returning the instrument to his car when a friend turned up. He, too, approached Poo for a picture, but the rocker refused.

Mr Ithipol complained that Poo had agreed to sign his guitar, so why not oblige his friend. “He leapt to his feet, asked ‘where is your guitar?’ and struck me in the face. His guard started hitting me too. I complained to police and went for a check-up at the hospital,” he said.

A CCTV clip taken at the eatery, posted on the internet by the complainant’s side, shows Poo’s party lunging at him, as guests hurriedly pay up and leave.

Poo’s drummer, Udon Teenakul, says netizens have criticised Poo unfairly since the clip emerged.

“The other table was egging for a fight and wouldn’t let up. P’ Poo posed for pictures four or five times. Isn’t that a little too much?

“On top of that, they were shouting, needling us, showing no respect. They talked as if we would have to agree to a picture no matter what, as they were the local owners of the patch.

“P’ Poo asked youngsters in our band to stand between his table and theirs, so they couldn’t see his face. But they refused to stop.”

Udon said the clip was edited and without audio, and didn’t show the other side needling Poo’s group.

“What a shame there is no sound, you’d get to know just how bad his mouth is...or does he think he is local influential guy of the province? P’ Poo, who pays respect to everyone, is entitled to rest like anyone else,” he said.

As news reports said Poo had instructed a lawyer in the case, Buri Ram police said they were preparing to call in Mr Ithipol to give extra testimony.

On-again, off-again cave drama

Outspoken director Poj Arnon denies he plans to invite the 12 boys rescued from Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai to make a movie about their ordeal, but has issued a casting call for those interested in playing them.

Amid reports that a clamour of Hollywood and Thai directors plan to put the international rescue mission to film, Poj was initially at pains to stress he did not plan asking the boys themselves to appear in any film of his. He was wary of claims that he was exploiting their ordeal to make money.

“I have never even considered the idea of casting the boys, so you can stop imagining,” he said. Poj is well-known for casting non-actors from real-life dramas which have made it into the news.

Later, the director appeared to have a change of heart on whether to make a movie of the drama, posting a message to social media urging boys interested in playing the main characters to get in touch.

“I am taking applications from boys aged 11-16. I want you to look like kids from the provinces. You must speak northern Thai. You don’t have to be handsome, but I don’t want fatties.

“You have asked for it, so here it is. Apply urgently. Leave your pic and number. You can trust Poj on this,” he wrote.

Later in the week, he said many people had inquired about the casting call, but denied reports he wanted to cast stateless coach and mentor to the team, Ekkapol Chantawong, who helped the boys survive their two weeks alone in the cave before rescuers arrived.

“His life is interesting, but I haven’t thought of casting him either,” he said.

Netizens continued to criticise, prompting a warning from fiery Poj that he could lay a police complaint.
