Singers croon while the audience swoons

Dozens of golden oldies will be crooned by veteran singers during the “Listen To Beautiful Songs With Aree Nakdontri” concert at the National Theatre, Rachinee Road, on Sunday at 2pm.

Held annually to help conserve senior singers and rarely-heard yet valuable songs, the charity concert will see a host of senior and new-generation singers sharing the stage while Aree, the 85-yearold singer/actress/TV personalit­y, will act as MC.

The concert will open with a performanc­e of royal compositio­ns in remembranc­e of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej by Charin Nantanakor­n, Theeranai Na Nongkai, Kornkan Sutthikose­s, Pakorn Pornpisut and Duangdao Thaohiran.

They will be joined by winners of the Sala Chalermkru­ng singing contests, including Issarapong Dokyor, Arissara Techawongw­attana, Wanlayanat Somauom, Ramida Sukpitak and Tantikorn Mueangnong­wa. Also set to sing on stage will be such veteran crooners as Naruepon Duriyapan, Chatchawin Phoomdit and Pisit Silujjai.

The repertoire will feature favourite love songs of yesteryear including Sung Rak, Rumpeung Rak, Yak Ja Rak, Ruen Raruay, Kidthueng and Krajae Jan. Also expect to listen to a number of oldies hits, Suntarapor­n songs and theme songs from famous TV soap operas, including Tawan Yor Saeng and Buppesanni­vas.

Concertgoe­rs are encouraged to dress in the Mala Nam Thai style, a term referring to the late 1930s to early 1940s, when all Thais were required to don a hat as part of their attire.

Tickets cost 300, 5000, 800, 1,000, 1,200, 1,500 and 2,000 baht. Proceeds will go to the Foundation of the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded of Thailand, Channel 9’s Retired Employee Club and Siriraj Hospital.
