FINAL ROUND FOR PIANO TALENTS
(Mahidol University’s Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, today at 4pm) Two of the five finalists from the fifth Thailand International Piano Competition will be performing with Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in the final concert. They are among the 22 hopefuls, aged 15-28, from 10 countries competing for prizes worth over 1 million baht. They will impress a panel of judges and the audience by performing a chosen concerto with the orchestra under the baton of guest conductor Thanapol Setabrahmana. CHARITY CONCERT OF GOLDEN OLDIES
(National Theatre, Rachinee Road, tomorrow at 2pm) The “Listen To Beautiful Songs With Aree Nakdontri” concert will feature many golden oldies crooned by both veteran and new generation singers. The line-up includes Charin Nantanakorn, Kornkan Sutthikoses, Pakorn Pornpisut, Duangdao Thaohiran, Theeranai Na Nongkai and winners of the Sala Chalermkrung singing contests. The repertoire includes King Rama IX’s royal compositions, favourite love songs of yesteryear, oldie hits and theme songs from famous TV soaps. Proceeds will go to the Foundation of the Welfare of the Mentally Retarded of Thailand, Channel 9’s Retired Employee Club and Siriraj Hospital. FLUTE RECITAL
(Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lat Phrao 41, tomorrow at 4pm) Blackbird Flute Quartet, a group of young passionate Thai flautists, will give a recital featuring pianist Pana Yontararak as guest artist in a programme of flute music by Anton Reicha, Friedrich Kuhlau, Franz Doppler and Faustin Jeanjean. The flute quartet is comprised by Akkhawin Lertsodsai, Siriphan Mongpho, Thanwa Thungthong and Boonya Nakdee. They are graduates of three different institutions — Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University and Mahidol University. Proceeds will go towards the Gift of Life Foundation to help blood-disease patients with financial difficulties and Chulalongkorn Hospital’s Bone Marrow Transplant Club. Tickets cost 700 baht.
