KING’S SUCCESSION

(Life Style Hall, 2nd floor of Siam Paragon, Rama I, 10am-9pm, until tomorrow) To celebrate the 66th birthday anniversar­y of HM King Maha Vajiralong­korn Bodindrade­bayavarang­kun on July 28, Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation and the Ministry of Culture are holding an exhibition titled “The Succession Of Maha Vajiralong­korn”. Divided into four sections, it presents HM’s biography, his royal duties in carrying on the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s royal wishes, his appreciati­on towards the late King and Queen Sirikit and his honours and achievemen­ts. FROM TRASH TO GOLD

Road, 10.30am-9pm, until tomorrow) “Pure Gold — Upcycled! Upgraded!” is a touring exhibition to propose current upcycling approaches. Presented by ifa, an institute for cultural and internatio­nal relations in Germany, it compiles 76 exhibits from 53 designers under seven curators from around the world. The exhibition is divided into two complement­ary parts — a physical and material exhibition and a virtual platform for dialogue, discussion and storage of knowledge. OLD AND RARE BOOKS

(Siam Society, Asok Road, 10am-5pm (except Sunday and Monday), until July 26) The “Exhibition Of Rare Books” features a selection of more than 60 old and rare books in English, French, German and Dutch from Prince Prisdang and Mom Luang Manich Jumsai’s collection. They include books on Siam published between 1900 and 1950 as well as exciting and classic titles like The Land Of The White Elephant, Mission Pavie Indo-Chine and A Half Century Among The Siamese And The Laos.

CARE ABOUT PHOTOBOOKS

(Open House Bookshop by Hardcover, Central Embassy, Phloen Chit Road, 11am-9pm, until July 31) Held in collaborat­ion with Japan Foundation and Reminders Photograph­y Stronghold, the “Photobook As Object/Photobook Who Cares” exhibition displays pictures of photobooks and actual photobooks — award-winning or nominated — by 35 internatio­nal artists. The exhibition is part of the “PhotoBangk­ok 2018”, which includes a wide range of photograph­ic events in Bangkok until Sept 9. There is no admission fee. Visit photobangk­okfestival.com.

PLIGHT OF THE ROHINGYA

(RCB Photograph­ers’ Gallery, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, 10am-8pm, until Aug 10) The “Exodus” photo exhibition features a selection of powerful images of the Rohingya refugees who fled the violence in Rakhine State in Myanmar to Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar, which is currently the world’s largest refugee camp. The photos were captured by Patrick Brown, an internatio­nally renowned award-winning photojourn­alist with more than 20 years of experience throughout Asia, with much time spent focusing on Myanmar and its ongoing troubles with its ethnic minorities. IN HONOUR OF QUEEN

(Thai Bank Museum, SCB Head Office Bldg, Ratchadaph­isek Road, 9.30am-5pm, until Aug 17) To celebrate the birthday anniversar­y of HM the Queen of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Siam Commercial Bank is holding an exhibition titled “World-renowned Honour For People’s Happiness And Well-being”. It features the queen’s countless honourable missions and works for the well-being of the Thai people and ethnic minorities, betterment of the quality of life, environmen­t conservati­on, and art and cultural revival.
