Jilted bride asks man’s uncle to take vows

-

A24-year-old bride thanked everyone for supporting her wedding despite the groom not showing up along with a promised 300,000-baht dowry of cash and gold.

A video clip of the lone bride on stage was posted on the page of Facebook user Manow Jutathip Nimnual on Sunday. She said she had done her best to organise the ceremony but had not expected it to left hanging like that.

The jilted bride thanked her parents and friends for helping to organise the wedding party at Wat Pikoolthong in Ratchaburi’s Muang district and sent her appreciation to guests.

Her cousin Kanyalak Puangmala said Miss Juthathip agreed to wed the 20-year-old man shortly after their relationship started. She asked for a 200,000-baht dowry and six baht-weight of gold. After the groom agreed they had pre-wedding photos taken and issued about 1,000 invitation cards.

A week before the wedding, the bride learned that her husband-to-be was also seeing another woman. However the man insisted he would resolve that issue and wed her as scheduled.

On Saturday, the groom claimed he was unable to raise the dowry. His family said it could only afford 60,000 baht. The bride’s side agreed.

The bride could not reach the groom on Saturday evening. Late that night his family said they had contacted him and wanted to meet the bride’s family at 5am on Sunday.

When they failed to show as promised, the bride’s family asked the man’s uncle, who looked like the husband-to-be, to stand in as the groom. Ms Kanyalak said the uncle agreed so long as they paid him 1 million baht. The uncle later wrote a note to tell the bride’s family he had a wife and could not stand in for his errant nephew. He said the 1-million-baht request was a joke intended to put them off.

Ms Kanyalak said her jilted cousin would take legal action.
